Metta School had a Career Day activity on the 28th February 2011. The programme was aimed at building Vocational Awareness - to help them understand the world of work and of various jobs available.

A quiz that requires guessing the correct occupation started the ball rolling.  Students who gave the correct answers were given a prize. The students had a taste of Vocational Exploration when Mr Raymond Low (JPO) introduced the ECG (Education & Career Guidance) Portal.  To assist teachers and students for their upcoming visit to Career Exhibition 2011, general information and safety issues were covered in a slide presentation. Our students from ASD programme had their fair share learning about various occupations with a mask making activity.

The main highlight of the morning must be the sharing session by a panel of alumni or past years Metta students. We were privileged to have Kian Liang, Zulkamal, Nurul Asykhin, Azrin and Shirley, who took time off their busy working schedule to share their experiences. They shared about their ups and downs in their careers through conversation with the talkshow host and questions from the floor.

The message is clear - treasure the chances given by
Metta School, do not disappoint your teachers and JPOs and do your best in your training and studies. Some the student enquiries were: “How much do you earn?” and “What are the working hours?”

Finally, we had a parade by the ASD students who showcased their “Career Mask” which they have created earlier. The programme came to a close with a video clip of Metta Trainees in action in their various work places. In all, the students thoroughly enjoyed the session, especially the Q & A with the Metta alumni members.
