Every Thursdays at the Tampines Pool, our students are given swimming lessons, which serve to develop swimming techniques such as the freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. Essential skills like water survival skills and water confidence are also taught. Every year in January, the aspiring swimmers will be grouped according to their swimming abilities, from Stage 1 to Stage 6. We have three main groupings ie. Basic, Intermediate and Silver, Bronze, Gold. Our best swimmers will be trained to take part in the national swimming competitions, organized by the Singapore Disability Sports Council, for special schools. Last year, some of our swimmers had won medals at such meets.
This year on the 25th of March, at the Special School Swimming Championship 2011, our best swimmer Chew Zi Ling did the school proud by winning 3 gold medals in the 50m freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events. Chew Zi Ling has also been selected to represent Special Olympics Singapore at the 2011 World Summer Games in Athens, Greece. We wish her all the best!
As you can see, swimming does indeed have many benefits for our students and will always remain as a popular CCA on our school calendar!
